"The Day the Earth Stood Still" Beamed Into Space

Whatever you think of the gimmick and its philosophical contradictions, rest assured that only the most important and highest minded of concerns went into the broadcast: 'Jim Lewis, Deep Space's director, said the company had to satisfy 20th Century Fox, the film's producers, that the transmission could not be intercepted and pirated on Earth or in the air.'" If only they had the technology to beam Keanu as well.

Does anyone else get a sinking feeling that Keanu Reeves really could spell the death of the human race?

A review that I read and a comment from a colleague, both stated that the one good thing in the film actually was Keanu Reeves. Apparently he's really good at playing an alien uncomfortable in a human body.

I know. Of all the great movies humanity has produced in the last 100 years -- The Godfather, The Wizard of Oz, The Shawshank Redemption, Casablanca, for example -- we beam this piece of drivel into space?!? I can't think of a more sure fire way for humanity to commit planetary suicide than exposing other civilizations to Keanu Reeves. They will make a special trip out here just to prevent us from making more Keanu Reeves movies.

As long as aliens don't try to record the movie and beam it back to us then the MPAA should leave them alone.

I don't think we want to be Trolling with aliens we never even met before. This seems seems potentially dangerous. Earth is going to lose Karma.

This is really a brilliant plan on the part of the MPAA. The aliens copy the movie, distribute this among themselves, and then we sue them $150,000 for each unauthorized copy under the DMCA! The entire universe is now liable! Of course, they will still have to work out the exchange rates, but this is a minor detail.
