Fisherman Hooks Live 8-Foot Missile 6

Forget about an old boot or a tire, Solomon Rodney caught an 8-foot-long missile on a recent fishing trip. Rodney tied the missile to the top of his boat and planned on keeping it as a souvenir. After contacting officials when he got ashore, it was determined that the missile was live. A bomb squad from MacDill Air Force Base was summoned, and the area was evacuated before the weapon was dismantled. Rodney says the Air Force told him not to pick up any more missiles. "They told me if you find another one, just let it go," he said.

  • A true catch and release. I'm sure environmentalists will be thrilled with the success.
  • he held the live tomahawk missile ON the ROOF of the boat for 2 days, during which he went through a storm with lightning strikes..... that's quite some luck, to go around with that and not have it hit by lightning

I remember when i was in the cub scouts - we got to go on base to the firing range and shoot for a trip.. we all walked around and picked up shell caseings .. to keep - some times we would find a live round and where instructed to give it to the commander - when i came back holding a live mortar round - and asked the comander what it was - I remember his eyes lighting up.. i will never forget that day... we got to watch them explode it at the end of the range.

      • Like playing lawn darts or sliding from the top of a huge metal slide, the stories like the above make me feel sorry for kids of this generation. I wonder when the last cub scout tour of that firing range was...

i can answer that.. it was 8 fucking years ago.. in the summer of 2001 before the 9/11 attacks.. since then we haven't been able to get clearance to get on that part of the base.

(i stayed with the same pack/troop through eagle and have been helping with it via OA since then)

by the way the mortar incident in the above post was ~17-18 years ago

That's a Sidewinder, not a Tomahawk. He wouldn't have been able to get a Tomahawk out of the water, let alone on top of his boat.
