Disguised Asian Male Caught At Canadian Airport

An anonymous reader writes "A young male of Asian appearance was caught in disguise during a flight from Hong Kong to Canada. The disguise consisted of a molded silicone face and neck mask, hat, glasses and cardigan. An intelligence alert (PDF) from Canada Border Services Agency contains photos of the man with and without the disguise as well as further details of the incident. Suspicions were raised at the start of the flight when the subject was noted as having an elderly appearance that didn't match his hands of youthful appearance. Later in the flight the subject entered an aircraft washroom to remove the disguise and was caught emerging as an early 20s Asian male. This disguise is more elaborate than those used by the suspected perpetrators of the assassination of Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh in Dubai, January 2010. Will the continued introduction of biometric passport security deprecate the use of disguises or will disguises simply become more sophisticated?"

For whatever reason this story gets a lot of coverage and has its own set of Memes up here in Canada. It's like our little inside joke.

However, no one has been able to report WHY he did this. It's a little frustrating.

He's seeking refugee status after fleeing from execution. Whether he was going to be executed for wanting freedom of speech, open elections, or for practicing an unapproved religion, I couldn't tell you.

I hope he get's a break, if some nightmare of a third world country wants you dead, going to a (more) civilized place seems like a good idea!
I'm surprised more people from states like Florida or Texas haven't done the same, look at the number of people waiting to be killed that were exonerated http://www.innocenceproject.org/know/ [innocenceproject.org] through cutting edge science (makes you shudder at how many innocents died miserably before this was possible)

I think it should be optional at the convicts discretion. If they know they're guilty and just want to get it over with we should be able to march them straight from the courtroom to the chair (table, gurney, whatever they use these days), and save ourselves some money on housing and feeding them. If they're still shouting "I'm innocent!!" at the end of the trial give them life in prison so we can let them out if it turns out we were wrong.

At some point you're better to give assylm seekers a gun, a rocket launcher, and send them back home to effect the change they need.

The bulletin linked to by TFA contains one whopper: "...it may not have been very difficult for the very elderly looking impostor to present himself as a 55-year-old man." I'd say the disguise looks about 70-80, myself.

There had to be a reason he did all this to get into Canada. No one goes through that much trouble to get here. I believe the important thing since the customs didn't thoroughly do a back round check is that no one on the plan was harmed. I must say that the detail of the fake face was incredible, I've always wondered if that was possible you always see it in movies, but to see that it is possible is crazy. I'm interested into hearing the rest of the details as soon as their are available.
