It's actually a bit sexist and completely reductive, so anyone actually wanting to shame bad behavior probably shouldn't use it, but internally consistent logic has never been humans' strong point. A "karen" is an abrasive micromanaging busy body that tries control other people in aN unwelcome manner,that conveys a sense of entitlement or expectation of compliance.
Back in the day we would just called them nags, bullys,overlording assholes, pieces of s***, spoiled, bossy,bitch(as in one who bitches, dicks, bitch ass mother f*****,entitled Fucks, etc.
You don't have to be female to be a "karen" all you have to do is demand someone else obey, in which the recipient finds it unwelcome. Any authority structures or centralized standards of behavior are irrelevant to whether or not someone the qualification being a behaving like a "Karen" unto another in a situation.
