Define official. It's the common connotation, yes. It's actually a bit sexist and completely reductive, so anyone actually wanting to shame bad behavior probably shouldn't use it, but internally consistent logic has never been humans' strong point. It's like the PC version of "bitch," but even more vague and "inclusive."
Well the male equivalent is a Todd. Anyway the easiest way to not acquire the label is to not act entitled and whiny in public and then post video evidence of yourself doing it.
Actually oh, I have never heard of Todd but I have heard of men being called a "male Karen."
Traits of a Karen include * entitled * privileged * aggressive * dishonest * appeals to authority to avoid rules * often attractive or higher-income or both. * quickly escalate from annoyance to screaming rage when defied.
The dishonesty is particularly bad when used in a racist situation where the Karen calls the police and then lies about the behavior of the non-whites.
Karens are often white or Asian but can be of any race. Karen's are almost always females but there are male Karen's as well.
There have been attempts to paint Karen as sexist however it is simply recognizing the fact that a majority of people like this are female. With the invention of cell phone cameras, these people are caught much more often lying and falling into fits of Rage than they used to be. As an awareness of these people spreads, it is more likely that they will be defied and the techniques they have used for many years don't work as well as they used to.
Yes and calling someone a Karen is not equivalent to the centuries-old practice of calling people the names of genitals to insult them. There the attempt is to associate the person with dirty parts of the body associated with human waste or to take away their masculinity or femininity by calling them the opposite genders genitalia.
I just asked myself... what would John DeLorean do?
