Don't Design Angry 10

If it's true the story is simple. According to David, Simon hires David to design a logo and make some graphs. Simon never pays him but asks for extra work for free. A truly hilarious email exchange ensues. According to Simon, Dave is a raving lunatic and a liar.

  • I want to check in a year or so and see if he’s surpassed Twitter.

Ah well, I guess I’ll find out soon enough. The only downside is, not knowing the address, I won’t ever be able to visit it and laugh at him for his stupidity.

Seriously, this guy is epic. But I don't know if I would have burned that bridge. It sounds like he was told that the previous work was going to be paid for if the deal worked out, which it didn't. Rather than saying no I think I would have asked for money up front, including enough to justify hours lost on the other project that didn't pan out.
I mean, if this guy were to do the work without cash up front he'd be a noob. There's just not enough information there to say if he threw away a paying job or mocked some imbecile that was just wasting his time.

    • Have you gone through the rest of the blog? This guy can't take anything seriously, putting this entire entry in the region of "really?"

Yeah, a normal instance of this would be:

Guy 1: Please do work for me.
Guy 2: You have outstanding invoices, please pay those and a retainer upfront.
Guy 1: one moment... (phones bookkeeper)

Guy1: Cheque #blahblahblah cleared on date, can you check your records? or,
Guy1: (phones bank) Please stop payment on cheque #blahblahblah. (to guy 1) Here is a cheque. or,
Guy1: My bad. Here is cash.

I must confess, I have wasted hours reading Emails from Crazy People [emailsfrom...people.com]. It's one of those addictive blog sites like Texts from Last Night or Failblog. Anyway, I think this article deserves to be submitted to Emails from Crazy People. Anyways, for those of you that enjoyed the little exchange betwixt Simon & David, Emails from Crazy People is for you.
