"Academic research supports the assertion that all readers can benefit from listening while reading," Amazon said in a statement, arguing that it enriches the experience for struggling readers, but also provides experienced readers "additional clues to the meaning beyond the words themselves.” They're calling it a Kindle exclusive, and it's already been implemented for nearly 15,000 ebooks. In addition, Amazon's also implemented the ability to switch instantly from text ebooks to audiobooks — and to publicize both features, Amazon's giving away 20 free audiobooks, including Kenneth Branagh reading "Heart of Darkness", and Tim Curry reading Dracula!"
