Not only is this handily the worst Slashdot "story" I've ever seen, but it's spelled "Ouroboros".

Wikipedia claims it's ok to spell it this way. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ouroboros [wikipedia.org] "tail-devouring snake", also spelled Ourorboros, Oroborus, Uroboros or Uroborus
      • by Ecuador (740021)

Wikipedia has an entry even for "Nucular". Right now it says that "some recognize it because of its increased usage", give it a little and it will say it is a fine spelling. The fact is that the greek "omicron upsilon" is translated as either "ou" or "u", so while Uroboros is fine, "Oroborus" is an obvious misspelling that probably originated from the fact that the "us" is a common latin suffix, while this particular word seems to have been originated directly from Greek and not gone through the not uncommo

      • Also spelled "idleispants"
        • I don't really get the idleispants thing. I mean, I think I understand the sentiment, but it is a very . . . non-US way of expressing it.

It just seems that nearly all the posts I see on Slashdot are in some approximation of US English. Are there a bunch of Britons hanging around Slashdot just tagging stories? If so, are they the assholes who insist on tagging every story, "story"?

    • Maybe, just maybe, this isn't actually a Slashdot story, but is the sick joke of a really, really good DNS hacker....

      Nah. That's just wishful thinking.

Listen people! There is a very good reason this is on the /. main page, since this is a tech website, it is meant to spark conversation and be meaningful in a technology kind of way. Don't you see the reference to cold fusion?! That's why the 10 word story is such a short story, the picture alone has left us with many insights into the ability to create infinite energy.

I swear to Superman, I actually thought about the symbolic meaning of the ouroboros as it relates to the theory of the ultimate universal collapse (as opposed to infinite expansion or a cyclical growth and contraction) while this thread was loading.

Little did I know that I'd already moved beyond the scope of the article before I even had a chance not to read it.

You aren't Digg. Stop trying to be. You are better than that. Slashdot does not need colour-coded, user-rated stories that you 'digg up' and 'bury' and, above all, does not need single image 'stories' for people to LOL over. Have some dignity.

  • Another "story" that's as lame as this and you're going on my ignore list. I haven't put an author on my /. ignore list since Jon Katz (although Zonk has come close a few times).

The only reason I haven't done it already is that your shotgun approach to posting random stories means that sometimes you post interesting ones, too, but that will be an acceptable loss if that's what I have to do to avoid crap like this.
