The World's Luckiest Man 8

90-year-old Alec Alder has survived car crashes, being hit by a tank, and bombings. A fighter jet once crashed into his house and his whole squadron was killed at Dunkirk. All in all, Mr. Alder has cheated death 14 times, easily besting the luckiest alley cat. Alec worked as a minister when he returned from the war and says he believes God saved his life all those times. If he doesn't win the next season of "Who Wants to Be a Superhero?", the show is rigged.

  • More like God killed off his whole squadron just to smell their corpses.

It always cracks me up when the sole survivor of some disaster says that god must have a reason for saving his life. What if god had some good reason for killing all those other people? Ever think of that?

Or maybe God just doesn't have such great aim all the time.

So he fell out of a tree, got hit by a car, got drafted, was run over by a tank, a jet crashed into his house, was bombed twice, His ships engine died in hostile waters, and was on leave while his platoon died. Doesn't sound very lucky to me, actually sounds rather unlucky, true he survived, but living isn't lucky. I'm alive and haven't had all those near death experiences, I think I'm lucky that I haven't gotten into those situations to begin with.

    • Maybe luck is a matter of perspective. Consider that I may find a 100$ on the sidewalk. To a rich person, that's pocket change, and their version of lucky would be investing in some venture that sees 200% growth. I think this man is lucky relative to his circumstances.
  • Oh yeah ?
    Let's see him survive a Shashdotting !
