High School Plans To Open Drug Clinic 16

Most high school students can go to study hall if they don't have a scheduled class but officials at William Floyd high school in New York want them to be able to go to drug rehab instead. If the proposed plan goes into effect, William Floyd will be the first high school to have a drug counseling clinic.

  • About time we started dealing with drugs more effectively. Clearly going after the suppliers isn't working (qv 20yo girl is police chief because the drug gangs rule mexico) so instead, take away the market. With no demand, it's not profitable to make it.

You really wanna save thousands of lives a year, across the world? Make them all legal. Make them prescription-only, regulate them, tax them, let doctors manage them. Let the big drug companies produce and supply pure drugs in reliable delivery mechanisms

Let the big drug companies produce and supply pure drugs in reliable delivery mechanisms. No way that organised crime will be able to complete with the big pharma corps. No more deaths due to heroin cut with ajax, no more deaths because the cartels are trying to protect their illegal crops.

Might the reason for the "huge market..." be that the prescription drugs are A) over-priced B) over-regulated (too hard to get the prescription) C) both?

I think that the best solution would be more along the lines of a psuedo-pharmacy. They have to be licensed, they have to check some sort of ID, but anyone can buy the drugs. Each time a customer makes a purchase it's logged into a database, and if a customer purchases more than x volume they get a call from the equivalent of AAA. Kind of like alcohol an

Put the crack smack and meth next to the tylenol and sudafed. Put a skull and crossbones on it so it can be easily recognized, even by illiterates. Wait a generation. The problem will solve itself.

Simply put, you should be able to write prescriptions for yourself, based on the principle that you have a right to put poisons into your own body. However, you should still have to pick them up at a pharmacy with proof of ID, so the pharmacy computer can check for adverse drug interactions and make sure you're not buying more than is suitable for a single person's consumption. However, they should probably also alert the DMV to put an automatic hold on your driver's license if you are receiving any sort of

I thought the entire point of AAA was that you had to be willing to be helped by them, for them to come and help you. Personally, I use Jerry instead when I need a car towed and I know the owner isn't going to be happy about it. I don't know if it's the tattoos on his face, the shot-gun rack on his tow truck, or the super aggressive pit bull by his side, but uncooperative people become really polite and even helpful once he gets there

    • So you think that big pharma is somehow better than the drug cartel? The only difference between them is legality. It shouldn't be regulated at all, save perhaps some agency that tests and labels the drugs so that folks know what they are buying exactly, and in what quantity. Let the free market regulate it. Addicts will be addicts regardless of law. The best thing we can do is try to help people be safe, and rid ourselves from the underground.

Which is pretty much the angle I was coming from.

There will always be people that take drugs just as there will always be people that pay money for sex and people that are prepared to sell sex.

By legalising and regulating the drugs that are currently illegal, we can dramatically reduce the number of accidental deaths due to overdose and drug related crime. Also the drugs can be taxed which will offset the cost of regulating it and we get to save a stupid amount of dollars that are currently being ineffectiv

  • I really could have used someone to counsel me on where to get the best drugs from when I was in high school! Some things kids just shouldn't be allowed to pick up off the streets!
