Tardy Students to Get Robo-Calls in Massachusetts 3

Durfee high school students who can't seem to get to school in time are now getting robo-calls from their principal to wake them up. From the article: "Durfee joins the ranks of US schools taking on the added role of alarm clock to combat high rates of tardiness and absenteeism, including New Bedford, Massachusetts and Chicago, Thibault said. In New York City, the wake-up calls feature the voice of former professional basketball star Magic Johnson."

  • Can they call the cell phones of students who fall asleep in class?
I would have been amused by this in high school for sure.
  • Seriously, schools should not be expected to do the job of parents! Educational institutions are slowly becoming baby-setting institutions! Schools seem to be spending more time on discipline and keeping kids in school and less time on educational pursuits! Schools should not be held accountable for kids who fail to get up on time to get to school -- parents should! What are we teaching our kids? What will happen when they get a job? Is the employeer going to have to call the employee every morning?
  • It is very interesting that teachers are looking for a way to really motivate students to enter their classes.
